It has been said that we are affected by our surroundings from the time we are in the womb. Throughout our infancy and through child, we are exposed to a number of factors that will inevitably shape us as we progress through life. It is for this reason that early childhood education is so important. Before we had any knowledge of social science or childhood psychology, we were ignorant to the impact that experiences have on our development from the time we are born. However, with the advancements of science and psychology we began to express more emphasis on early childhood education. This discovery spawned the introduction of primary education and early care for children. Some may argue that it is senseless to provide any type of early childhood education when the child does not even know the difference between their hand and foot, but studies have shown just how beneficial and effective a primary education can be for a child.
The first couple years of life is when a child begins to build a sense of self, an identity. Learning begins as soon as a child is old enough to see and register their surroundings in their mind. For this reason, it is very important for the child to be with a caretaker that can instill cultural and home values in the child. Many caretakers in primary education are trained to treat each child in a unique manner so that they are able to develop their own identity. Early childhood education is synonymous with primary education, early care and early education. These types of program enforce a program that encourages learning through play and interaction. Programs that are not synonymous with primary education are daycare and childcare. However, more and more of these programs are beginning to incorporate educational programs similar to that of primary education, as more emphasis is now being placed on early childhood education.
During early childhood education, the main objective is to develop five main areas. These areas are the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional domains of children. The social domain refers to the child’s capability to interact socially with other children. It is important that they are children of their age because they are at the same developmental stage. Interaction includes playing with other, developing friendships, co-operating with other children and sharing. The physical domain refers to the development of their motor skills and coordination. Early childhood education also develops the child’s intellectual domain. This is the ability of the child to comprehend their surroundings. Primary education also encourages the creative domain by allowing the child to demonstrate their unique talents, and finally primary education helps to develop the emotional domain. This helps the child increase their self-awareness and understanding of feelings.
There are many benefits of early childhood education. When a child is young, their mind is essentially a sponge. If you choose to surround the child with rich educational opportunities, it may benefit your child for the rest of their life. From the time that the child leaves the womb, their minds take in their surroundings begin to develop. Take advantage of that and give your child a head start.
