The history of education is one that is rich with culture and a longstanding tradition; passed on from each generation to the next, through the evolution of humanity. From the inception of the written word and the spoken language, each culture has sought to pass down their knowledge of cultural values, traditions, skills and religion to the next generation. Through this type of education, our human history begins to evolve. Our ancient ancestors had begun to shape education as we know it today.

In the times before the written word, an education would be provided to the youngest members of the household, usually by older members of the household through imitation and observation. An education would include learning to assist in tasks about the home, as well as learning the social values within their time. This type of informal education would be passed down from the parents or grandparents until the child was old enough to learn more concrete subjects. As the child reach the age of formal education, they would receive an education taught by individuals who were not related. These providers in education would teach subjects related to religion, initiations and ritual.

As the civilizations would progress, so would their skills. This would continue to enrich the education that was being passed down. An education now included trades, instead of mostly abstract concepts. An education usually entailed lessons in animal husbandry, fishing, agriculture, preparation and preservation of food and hunting, construction, boat building, stone and metal work, the creation of weapons, and military skills. This was not an exclusive list of their areas of education, but rather, a general overview of what an education might have been like.

When the development of writing evolved, it completely reshaped what an education had been like up until then. This enabled stories, poetry, knowledge and customs that had previously been passed down orally, to be written down and recorded. A written history of education had begun. Although literacy had been slow to catch on, education was now a possibility for those who had never been offered a formal education. An education had only been available to a small population, those in religious institutions and the wealthy, but now a book that is passed down is an adequate substitute to teach those who did not have access to formal teachers.

Most of us on this planet are literate through the education that had developed and passed from our humble ancestors. However, there are still those who are not afforded an education and thus, are not literate. With all the work that our ancestors had put into passing down centuries of their education to our generation, it is our duty to continue helping those who are less fortunate. With the combined efforts of humanity, it is possible to spread the rich history of education to all those who share this planet with us, so that we could all be touched by our ancestors’ gift of education.

For those who are at the first big crossroad in their life, they may be faced with confusion in which path to pursue. This crossroad is the very one that most of us will encounter upon graduation from high school. Each graduating student is faced with a different set of circumstances and these unique circumstances will be an influencing factor in their decision upon graduation. The main decision that each young adult faces is whether to continue on with getting an education through a higher institution or if they should forgo the continuation of getting an education, and try their luck in the job market. Getting an education is not what most students look forward to in high school, but for many who choose to continue on in college, they have many reasons upon graduation to be glad that they did. For those who decide not to get an education from a four year institution, but rather a two year institution or trade school, they too realize the benefits and opportunities available to them, because they chose to continue their education.

Getting an education may not be on the top priority of many Americans nowadays, especially with the economy today. However, because less jobs are available, the job market becomes more competitive than it had been in previous years. Perhaps, right now is the perfect time to get an education in doing something one is truly interested in. As the job market is becoming increasingly competitive, many high schoolers have no choice than to go out and get an education. There are many options for those who are just graduating high school.

For those who are looking to avoid the job market for as long as possible or are unsure of what they would like to do, they may want to consider getting an education at a four year institution. In addition, to keeping the average student away from the realities of the economy for an extra four years, they also offer more options than you could consider. Getting an education at a four year institution does however, require perseverance and patience. For those who would rather spend less time getting an education and more time making some money, but would still like to get an education at a higher institution, there are other options.

Choosing to get an education at a two year college for an associate’s degree, or at a technical school will also give you an edge when you enter the job market. These degrees are usually more specific and geared towards a very specific area of specialty. Getting an education in these institutions are a good idea because the competition for these jobs will be smaller as there are less people who are qualified to perform these jobs. If you choose to get an education at one of these institutions, be sure to check with each institution to make sure they are accredited and recognized by those in the field. If you fail to do so, you may end up regretting your decision to get an education with them.

Times are tough now, and the economy is taking a toll on all the taxpayers alike. A high school student graduating during these times are faced with many decisions and although it may be tempting to try your luck in the job market, it may not be the sound choice to consider. Instead, it may be an advantage for the student to take this time now to hibernate from the job market, so that when they have finished getting an education, they will be armed with the proper skills to make it in the real world.

Many kids look forward to going to school, but on the other end, there are also kids who are not big fans of going to school. Struggling to get your child to go to school in the morning is not an uncommon problem for parents. Many of the kids just don’t like to get up in the morning. Others are simply too energetic to wait through hours of classes for recess. However, some kids may have a far more serious reason for not wanting to go to school. For these kids, the stress of going to school is very real. The stress of going to school may cause these children to experience stomachaches, nausea, chest pains and headaches. What these children may be displaying are symptoms of school refusal.

School refusal is a ‘difficulty attending school associated with emotional distress, especially anxiety and depression.’ School refusal usually does not just materialize. The child not wanting to go to school due to school refusal is usually born from a very specific set of circumstances. They may have experienced bullying, a death in the family, or a move to a new school. These circumstances are often followed by a period of time in which the child stays at home with the family. When it comes time for the child to go to school again, they may refuse to do so. School refusal is not associated with social phobias or separation anxiety disorder, but share symptoms that are common within that group of disorders.

Children who refuse to go to school because of school refusal generally complain of physical symptoms associated with various illnesses. These symptoms may include stomachaches, headaches, nausea, cramps, joint pain and chest pain. In order to evaluate whether your child is truly sick, or just refusing to go to school, observe their behavior after you allow them to stay home. They may suddenly get better during the day. They may also show no swelling of joints or limited movement even though they complained of joint pain. Anytime their physiological condition or behavior contradicts that of what a truly sick child with those symptoms would display, they may be experiencing extreme symptoms of stress due to the notion of going to school.

If a child is experiencing school refusal, they may need to seek help so that they can look forward to going to school again. When a child states complains of physical symptoms preventing them from going to school, you should take them to a pediatrician to rule out a true illness. If the child is not physically ill, the child will have to go to school. The longer the child is harbored at home, the more difficult it will be to get them to go to school in the future. You may want to talk to the school staff about the child’s problem so that they can observe activity surrounding the child. Have a plan for the child if the child should experience extreme stress during school hours. If the child is still struggling to go to school, you may want to consider family therapy or psychological help.

Going to school should be a fun and memorable experience for any child. If your child or any child you know may be experiencing symptoms of school refusal, talk to the child to find out what is really going on. Taking the proper steps at an early stage is essential in helping the child to regain the joys of going to school.

Technology today has provided our generation with more options than we have ever had in the past. It may be a bit extreme to say, but most of us can live our lives through the internet without ever having to leave the house anymore. Shopping can be done online and delivered to your door, knowledge we could only derive from books in the library are now available to us through the touch of keyboard. These amazing inventions have enabled us live lives of convenience. One of the biggest innovations of recent years are the online colleges that are now available. Now you can receive a four year degree from an accredited institution without ever having to even step foot into the state in which the online college is established. However, as tempting as this may sound for many people who carry on full-time jobs or simply do not have the time to commute, online education is an option that must be considered with a grain of salt.

First you must decide if an online college is the right choice for you. Receiving your education from an online college is very different from attending a traditional school and you must be prepared for the vast differences between these two options. Receiving an online education requires one to be very self-motivated. As there are no professors standing over your shoulder to check that you are keeping up with your assignments or going to class, you must have the motivation to accomplish what needs to be done on your own. You must set your own goals, and you will be the only one to assure that you will get there. One advantage of and online education is that you are able to work at your own pace. Some people do not like to wait to begin an assignment, but for those who procrastinate, this may result in a significant delay in receiving your degree from an online college. In addition, you must have good reading comprehension skills to pursue an online education. There may be a small amount of recorded lectures you may be able to listen to, but the vast majority of your classes will be available only through written text. If you do not have the ability to learn entire lessons from written text, you may want to reconsider online education. You must also be able to resist the distractions of your surrounding environment. It is not easy to focus on material from your online college if the TV is blaring in the background or the fridge is calling your name. You must have self-control to succeed in an online college. Finally, you must also consider whether you would miss the social elements of a traditional school. If you are the type of person who values the experience of meeting new people and enjoying new experiences, you may want to consider whether you would regret attending an online college as opposed to a traditional school.

With the innovations of technology come the availability of new options. Although many people would benefit from an online education, be sure to fully take into consideration the vast differences from a traditional college, to assess whether you can be one of these individuals.

For the last couple of years, the economy has been gradually deteriorating around us. Many of us lost our jobs or received huge pay cuts. However, many of those affected by the declining economy have taken advantage of this as an opportunity to return to school. Fed up by jobs that are no longer satisfying or adequately paying the bills, many are choosing distance learning programs to attain a degree so that they may be more marketable in this tough economy. Distance education programs have given those who continue to work, the opportunity to go back to school on their own terms, while others can attend distance education programs full-time, taking advantage of the extra time they have at home that they can spend with family. However, as distance learning programs have evolved fairly recently, it is important to do your research before choosing a school. Distance education can be a powerful learning tool as long as you approach your options with your eyes open.

One of the most important factors in choosing a school for distance learning, is whether or not the distance learning program is accredited. They must be accredited by the correct regional association. Failure to check for the proper education could result in your degree being rejected by the majority of employers. If it is not accredited, but you are still considering the distance education program, find out if it will be accredited. Many times, the distance education programs are new and are in the process of receiving their accreditation. You want to find out the cost of your distance learning program. It should cost approximately the same amount as a traditional school, but slightly less. If it is significantly less, ask them if there are hidden costs or fees. Some distance learning programs will require you to purchase additional software or textbooks to accompany the course. The last thing you want to be stuck with is a mandatory fee. Find out what type of education your distance learning professors will have. For a junior college, they should have at least a masters. For a university, most professors will have a PhD and there should be no exception for distance education programs. You may also want to how long the program is. Some distance learning programs have deadlines and class sessions, while others are at your own pace. Pick one that works best for you. Some other differences between the various distance learning programs is whether there is extra help offered. Some distance education programs will have virtual office hours, while other programs, you are virtually on your own. And finally, find out how long the school has been around. The long the school has been around, the more reputable this distance learning program is.

Times are tough, but when life gives you lemon, make lemonade. Take advantage of this extra time many of us suddenly find ourselves with. Try a distance learning program and give your resume an edge. However, be sure to do your research before you settle on a school. The last thing any of us need to do is squander away our time and money on a distance education program that will not be recognized.

It has been said that we are affected by our surroundings from the time we are in the womb. Throughout our infancy and through child, we are exposed to a number of factors that will inevitably shape us as we progress through life. It is for this reason that early childhood education is so important. Before we had any knowledge of social science or childhood psychology, we were ignorant to the impact that experiences have on our development from the time we are born. However, with the advancements of science and psychology we began to express more emphasis on early childhood education. This discovery spawned the introduction of primary education and early care for children. Some may argue that it is senseless to provide any type of early childhood education when the child does not even know the difference between their hand and foot, but studies have shown just how beneficial and effective a primary education can be for a child.

The first couple years of life is when a child begins to build a sense of self, an identity. Learning begins as soon as a child is old enough to see and register their surroundings in their mind. For this reason, it is very important for the child to be with a caretaker that can instill cultural and home values in the child. Many caretakers in primary education are trained to treat each child in a unique manner so that they are able to develop their own identity. Early childhood education is synonymous with primary education, early care and early education. These types of program enforce a program that encourages learning through play and interaction. Programs that are not synonymous with primary education are daycare and childcare. However, more and more of these programs are beginning to incorporate educational programs similar to that of primary education, as more emphasis is now being placed on early childhood education.

During early childhood education, the main objective is to develop five main areas. These areas are the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional domains of children. The social domain refers to the child’s capability to interact socially with other children. It is important that they are children of their age because they are at the same developmental stage. Interaction includes playing with other, developing friendships, co-operating with other children and sharing. The physical domain refers to the development of their motor skills and coordination. Early childhood education also develops the child’s intellectual domain. This is the ability of the child to comprehend their surroundings. Primary education also encourages the creative domain by allowing the child to demonstrate their unique talents, and finally primary education helps to develop the emotional domain. This helps the child increase their self-awareness and understanding of feelings.

There are many benefits of early childhood education. When a child is young, their mind is essentially a sponge. If you choose to surround the child with rich educational opportunities, it may benefit your child for the rest of their life. From the time that the child leaves the womb, their minds take in their surroundings begin to develop. Take advantage of that and give your child a head start.

It is important for parents to be a part of their child’s life. Being a supportive parent and being active in their lives could make a big difference to your child’s progress in educational programs and otherwise. Whether you choose to attend their big sports meets or become an active participant in the PTA, your child will notice and appreciate it. In addition, it helps you to keep track of what your child is learning in their educational programs as well as the progress they are making. By keeping up with their education programs in school, you may be able to lend a helping hand when your child may need your help with homework and projects. This can mean the difference between making C’s on their finals or finishing off the school year as a straight A student. Be active in your child’s education programs and show that you care.

One option that many parents choose to take, is to become a member of the PTA. This gives the parent a chance to some control over the educational programs that your child will be exposed to. When you join the PTA, you will have an opportunity to meet all the individuals that are responsible for shaping your child’s education program. In addition, you will be exposed to all the different options you may have to communicate with providers of your child’s education program. It is important that you keep in constant contact with your child’s teachers so that you may monitor you child’s progress. Let them know how your child learns best and what their learning goals may be. The more you know about their progress, the more help you can provide your child if they should need it. Help yourself help others. Also, participate in surveys regarding the education programs at the school. When you know enough about your child’s educational programs, you will be able to provide the school’s education programs with your input. Remember, every opinion counts. And while you are getting involved with your child’s educational programs, learn how to get involved for the benefit of other children as well. Help other families exercise their rights in the educational programs and become a part and become a part of the school improvement committee. Learn advocacy strategies and techniques, and share them with other parents. For parents who are unfamiliar with the school system, but would like to get involved with the educational programs, teach them how they can maneuver through these roadblocks so that they too can become active.

You can never be too active when it comes to improving your child’s life. Becoming a significant part of their education will help them not only through school, but beyond. Show them that you care and become an active participant in your child’s school PTA. Be a part of their life, be a part of what counts.

For many of those who are graduating high school, they are unsure of whether they should continue on to pursue a higher education or to just proceed to try their luck in the job market. Although the lure of money may be tempting, the option of pursuing a higher education may be the more lucrative decision in the long run. In addition, having a college education or any other form of higher education may have other added benefits that extend beyond financial benefits. Whether you decide to pursue a college degree for the money or the experience, it may be an opportunity worth looking into.

Most people pursue a college education or some other form of higher education in the hopes that they will have better job opportunities and generate more revenue than their non-degree holding counterpart. They are right to think so. The rate of return on investment in higher education is high enough to warrant the financial burden associated with pursuing a college education. On average, individuals who hold a college degree earn $2.1 million and those holding associate degrees earn $1.6, while those who choose not to pursue a college education, make $1.2 million over their lifetime.

In addition to the financial benefits of a higher education, there are other benefits associated with a degree. Those who choose to pursue a college education or another form of higher education also benefit from better health for themselves and their family, a lower mortality rate within their given age bracket, a higher level of savings, which translates to an earlier retirement and more time for hobbies and leisure. They also tend to have a more optimistic view on life and tend to spend more time cultivating family values and morals. In addition, a college education provides those with better consumer making decisions and a better quality of life for themselves and their family. Those who pursued the path of college education have often been exposed to more diverse viewpoints and cultures. They tend to be more open-minded, more cultured, more rational, more consistent and less authoritarian. Those with the college education are not the only ones who benefit from it either. These viewpoints are usually passed down to their children.

80% of high school graduates now pursue some form of higher education. Whether it is for the financial benefits or beyond that, it may be a good idea to look into the path of delayed gratification. There are only a small portion of the benefits of a higher education that are tangible. The rest of the benefits may be something that even money cannot buy.

Although it is not as prominent an issue as it once had been, dropping out of high school is still a problem affecting many young adults. Many just lose the drive to continue on with high school, while others feel that they are forced to drop out due to extenuating circumstances. Whatever the reason may be, it is imperative to think about your options before you make a decision. A decision of such a magnitude will have life-rendering consequences.

In a day where technology and science advances at such a rapid pace, it is of utter importance that one completes their high school education. Your secondary education is the time in life where you will learn all the basic skills needed to function in society, as well as an advanced work environment as the one we are in today. You are not only depriving yourself of an education when you refuse your high school education, but you are also turning away an invaluable experience. Unfortunately, this experience is one required by the vast majority of employers nowadays. Roughly 60% of employers require some type of higher education after a secondary education and in order to attend an institution of higher education, you must have completed your high school education. Those who do not complete their secondary education are more likely to depend on public assistance, have health problems and engage in criminal activity. Those who continue on beyond a secondary education enjoy increased income as well as increased health benefits. They also have more opportunities in life and thus, an increased satisfaction with life. Without a high school education, you are putting limits on what you can achieve in your lifetime.

For those who choose to leave behind their secondary education but would like to attend a college or university, they have the option of pursuing a GED. Some colleges and universities will accept GEDs but all of them will accept a high school diploma. Today, it is more important than ever for students to pursue some form of higher education. With the nature of the competitive job market, those without a high school education are left with practically no options. A secondary education is crucial to succeeding in higher education. Not only is a higher education beneficial for your career, it also provides an experience that cannot be derived from working somewhere you are forced to work, because you don’t have a secondary education. It improves your financial worth and increases your social and cultural experiences. This is something that money can not pay for.

If your choose to forgo your high school education, you are closing practically every door that is available in your lifetime. In an economy and society as the one we live in today, it is important that students push themselves to succeed. All students should be held in high expectations as a high school diploma is your key to a post-secondary education.
