Although it is not as prominent an issue as it once had been, dropping out of high school is still a problem affecting many young adults. Many just lose the drive to continue on with high school, while others feel that they are forced to drop out due to extenuating circumstances. Those who do not complete their secondary education are more likely to depend on public assistance, have health problems and engage in criminal activity. Those who continue on beyond a secondary education enjoy increased income as well as increased health benefits. They also have more opportunities in life and thus, an increased satisfaction with life. Without a high school education, you are putting limits on what you can achieve in your lifetime.
For those who choose to leave behind their secondary education but would like to attend a college or university, they have the option of pursuing a GED. Some colleges and universities will accept GEDs but all of them will accept a high school diploma. Today, it is more important than ever for students to pursue some form of higher education. With the nature of the competitive job market, those without a high school education are left with practically no options. A secondary education is crucial to succeeding in higher education. Not only is a higher education beneficial for your career, it also provides an experience that cannot be derived from working somewhere you are forced to work, because you don’t have a secondary education. It improves your financial worth and increases your social and cultural experiences. This is something that money can not pay for.
